1788-89 Fashion Plates from Magasin des Modes

Today I have the last of the fashion plate images from the publication
"Magasin des Modes Nouvelles, Francaises et Anglaises".
The information I have shows this French publication ran from 1786-1789.
Fortunately I have examples from all of those years.
Several "Hat Fashions" from this publication can be seen - HERE
Fashion plates from 1786 can be seen HERE
Fashions from 1787 can be seen HERE
and now we finish off with plates from 1788 & 1789.

This digital scene was created using an Ackermann Repository background, one of my
EKDuncan vintage frames and two vintage fashion plate that I turned into PNG form.
I've included a variety of colorized fashions for the lady at the bottom of the post.
Enjoy!

A few things I enjoyed about the publication
"Magasin des Modes Nouvelles, Francaises et Anglaises"
were the extended fashion plates showing two or more figures together and that they included additional items of interest such as buckles, furniture and  entire room decor on occasion.

Buckles were an important accessory item for shoes at this time and I'm intrigued by them.
They most likely would have been made of silver and could have been studded with paste
or real gemstones.  Here are a few of the plates I have showing designs for them.

1787 Fashion Plates - Magasin des Modes Nouvelles

Today I have a small selection of 1787 fashion plate images from the publication
"Magasin des Modes Nouvelles, Francaises et Anglaises".

Based on the information I have been able to find this publication ran from 1786-1789 and I've been fortunate enough to acquire a variety of fashion images from all the years it was produced.
My previous post showed a few of the 1876 fashions and several "Hat Fashions" from this publication can be seen - HERE (they start about a quarter of the way down the post).

This digital scene was created using an Ackermann Repository background, one of my EKDuncan vintage frames and a lovely vintage fashion plate that I turned into PNG form and altered the color.
I've included a variety of colorized fashions at the bottom of the post so I hope you enjoy them.

I choose to turn the two ladies from Feb 1787 into PNG images and then had a bit of fun creating new color versions of their fashions so I could have a variety of design choices to use in digital art projects.  Here are the versions I came up with.

"Garden Stroll"
I used the teal version of lady #1 and reversed her direction for my scene and then
it was just a question of finding a pretty backdrop and frame to finish her off.
Here are the last two images I used to create this quick digital scene.

The Background
I used an 1827 image from Ackermann Repository's Country Seat series as my background.
I have not previously posted this image so it's another new one for you to add to your collection.
Other Ackermann "Country Seat" landscapes are available HERE

I still have more Georgian Era Fashion plates coming up so

1785-1786 French Fashion Plates - "Des Modes"

Fashion magazines have been around for quite a while and the quality of images could vary greatly  depending on the publication.  Some of the late 1700's fashion plates are quite exquisite such as the images from Galerie des Modes et Costumes (which I blogged about earlier from Feb - May 2012, one example of which can be seen HERE).

Other publications have plates that are more rustic in appearance yet are still noteworthy for their fashion references and artistic appeal. Even these "rougher" looking images can make fun additions to digital art projects.

The Courting Couple by EKDuncan using vintage French fashion plates from 1785-1786

Today I have a few French Fashion plates from the 1785-1786 to share with you.
They are from the publications:
"Cabinet Des Modes ou Les Modes Nouvelles"
and
"Magasin Des Modes Noubelles Francaise et Anglaises"

At the bottom of the post I have provided a variety of colorized versions for the above couple.
I hope you enjoy them!

The Lady from my Courting Couple Scene
French Fashion (Mar 1785) - Cabinet Des Modes ou Les Modes Nouvelles
I thought this image was quite lovely and turned her into a png; then I created a
variety of color combinations so I could use her in digital art projects.

The Gent from my Courting Couple Scene

I thought this handsome fellow would be good to use in a few scenes so;
he too was turned into a png and given a few wardrobe adjustments in the process.

The Background

Naturally you need a backdrop of some sort to create a scene and in this case I dug into my Ackermann Repository resources and chose this lovely image of Holly Grove House from 1823; however since the house is from an earlier date I thought it would work quite well with my characters. I had not previously posted this image so it's a new one to add to your collection.
Other Ackermann Repository landscapes can be found HERE

For my scene I flipped the image so it appears in reverse, just in case you were wondering.

The Frame

I like to digitally "frame" my art and used one from my vintage collection.
I created it using a vintage frame and added in the extra surround for added interest.

A Higher Resolution version of this can be found at my deviantART account HERE

One last look at the Courting Couple

All and all I thought this made a sweet little outdoor scene.
I've got a few new ones coming up using interior furniture plates;
so remember to check back and see how those came out.

Till Next Time...
